Q: Can investment trusts invest in alternative assets?

Investment companies can invest in a wide range of equities and also can invest in alternative assets.

This includes private equity sector where private equity investment companies invest directly in unquoted companies or funds of unquoted companies or a combination of the two of these.

There is also an investment company Hedge Fund sector which are eitherinvest in funds of hedge funds or invest into feeder funds of hedge funds.

With their closed ended structure investment companies are particularly suitable for specialist asset classes.
