Axa's Nel Mooy to replace Simon Burgess as MD of British Insurance
Simon Burgess has stepped down from his role as managing director of British Insurance and handed the reigns on to Axa's Nel Mooy.
Ms Mooy has joined the Towergate-owned insurance provider from Axa where she was head of direct marketing and offer.
Mr Burgess said it was the end of an era, but added Ms Mooy would be a "very able replacement".
British Insurance was set up by Mr Burgess and sold to Towergate in January 2008.
Mr Burgess said: "The reason I am stepping down is that I have worked through my earn out period and I have fulfilled my contractual and moral obligations to Towergate.
"I have taken the money that is due to me and I am now moving on to my new business and venture."
Mr Burgess said he now plans to sell unemployment insurance in the United States.
He added: "I am entrepreneur, not an employee. I have had two years as an employee and now I am free to go off and pursue my own ventures.
"It has always been the plan. British Insurance was set up with the specific objective to sell it and move off to new ventures at the earliest opportunity."
Speaking about his replacement Nel Mooy, Mr Burgess said: "She is very talented and exudes integrity.
"Nel Mooy is a very high-calibre lady and I am very pleased to hand the baton to her."
