The managers have exited all property, including an exchange traded fund (ETF) targeting equities such as housebuilders and the Barclays Celsius Asian Real Estate Income fund.

The ETF delivered 46 per cent while they held it, more than double the 21 per cent gain seen on the FTSE All-Share.

That exposure netted their funds a significant part of their targeted returns for the month, the managers said.

Since they cut exposure earlier this month, the ETF has already sold off by 6 per cent, further justifying the move, they said.

Mr Pinggera added: "We are investors, not traders, so we don't normally buy and sell so quickly.

"But the ETF had already reached our targets, so we decided to sell."

With some of the proceeds the managers have begun re-entering the healthcare sector, opting for Polar Capital's Healthcare Opportunities fund, managed by Daniel Mahony and Gareth Powell.

The managers added the sector was still undervalued and remained one of the few areas left that had yet to rally along with the rest of the market.

The funds are performing in line with their various targets, which require them to deliver stable growth based on Libor with controlled levels of risk and volatility.

Insight Investments Diversified Target Return is reporting 5.7 per cent of growth for the year to November 2, while Diversified High Income reports a 3.6 per cent rise.

The managers said they were highly focused on keeping costs down on their investments, with total expense ratios on the funds thought to be lower than their rivals'.

For example, if the managers want exposure to gilts, they will buy directly from the market, rather than purchasing a gilt fund – that way they avoid annual management charges associated with active vehicles.

Head of multi-asset Mr Pinggera joined Insight from Credit Suisse to take over from Patrick Armstrong and Ana Cukic Armstrong in October 2008.
