Income protection rates have been reduced by an average of 10.9 per cent, while critical illness rates have typically gone down by 7.6 per cent.

LV= has also taken the opportunity to reduce all premiums for its Lifetime Plus guaranteed premium whole of life plan.

LV= is offering free critical illness cover to anyone taking out an income protection policy under the LV= Flexible Protection Plan until the end of the year.

These customers will receive free lump sum critical illness cover equivalent to three times their monthly income protection benefit.

Free critical illness cover was initially launched as a short term offer in February 2009 and feedback from advisers was so positive that LV= decided to extend it until the end of this year.

In addition to the critical illness re-price and free critical illness offer, LV= is also making enhancements to the level of cover available and exclusion discounts.

LV= is doubling the maximum cover offered to £3m and applying premium discounts on critical illness plans when the applicant is excluded from cancer.
