One enterprising gentleman from the state of Texas has developed a clever, if slightly unscrupulous, technique for keeping the tank filled on the cheap.

Apparently, he parks his Cadillac on the side of the road, hoists up the bonnet and waits for passing do-gooders to stop and help. Local police grew suspicious after they noticed the man’s car “broken down” on the same stretch of highway three times in a row. They found four 1-gallon petrol cans - filled to the brim - in the boot. "He'd been convincing people he was out of gas and to give him money or buy him some," police officer Charles Gonzalez told the Associated Press. "People were not only buying him gas, they were buying him the gas cans."
