Keeping top female staff can be hard if employers do not offer attractive conditions for working mothers

n Make sure there are visible role models - both male and female - who combine successful careers with family without sacrificing too much.

n Help managers understand how to best manage the maternity transition for women and the extended team. It does not need to be a major issue if best practices and some practical, common sense, measures are taken.

n Make sure the leaders of the business are sending the right messages through their language, the support they provide and the decisions they make surrounding working patterns. Is yours a culture of presenteeism for example?
