Being environmentally-friendly in the workplace will provide an efficient way to make cost savings to firms, according to Business Link.

The free business information and advisory service believes taking eco-friendly steps will help reduce costs and lower environmental impact.

Elaine Sharp, Envirowise Programme manager, said: "The current economic climate requires us to be wise spenders both as individuals and business people. While senior management buy-in is crucial to success, the fact is that any member of staff in an organisation – at any level – can make a positive difference."

Top environmentally-friendly tips include encouraging staff to switch off computers, lights and high-energy usage machinery, investing in new, efficient equipment, swapping client face-to-face meetings for web-based video conference calls in order to reduce transport travel and striving to be a paperless office.
