Migrants have not taken British jobs, says Timms
Immigrant workers have had no negative effect on national wages or employment - DWP
The entry of migrant workers into the UK has not caused unemployment to rise or impeded the employability of UK nationals, a report by the Department of Work and Pensions has found.
Focusing on the case for Eastern European economic migrants, the DWP concluded that "migrants have not taken jobs away from British workers and have not impacted on wages," said Stephen Timms, MP, employment and welfare reform minister.
He continued: "What we need to do now is ensure we continue helping those young people with low skills to get the training and support they need to make the most of the opportunities which exist."
