The fund will invest across the market-cap scale and will aim to achieve long-term capital growth by investing in mining company equities.

Mr Burstow rejoined Barings last June as resources investment manager from BlackRock, where he was vice president of analysis and investment across the mining sector

Barings said the manager will be able to invest in global companies that are involved with the exploration, development and production of non-ferrous metals at one end through to precious metals and speciality commodities at the other and in companies which engage in enabling mining technologies.

The group said the all-cap nature of the fund meant that, in addition to core large-cap holdings, it can also focus on small and mid-cap miners at earlier stages of exploration and development.

The portfolio will have between 70 and 100 holdings and the manager expects that around two-thirds will be in small and mid-cap companies. The fund is set to launch in March subject to regulatory approval.
