The software, which is already available for iPhone, means that firms can track their employees’ expenses as soon as they are incurred. It allows companies to check closely on the expenses for business trips and raise any red flags when excessive claims are being made.

The software will merge every claim remotely with central company accounts.

The system works across several different currencies. A ‘micro-tasking’ system speeds employees through the claims process and makes sure that advisers do not stray from company policy regarding expenses claims.

Sanjay Parekh, managing director of WebExpenses, said: “It is becoming impossible for businesses to justify cutting costs by laying off workers when they are failing to get a grip on travel and entertainment budgets. The new app gives users unprecedented control over all their outgoings, by providing an up to the minute insight into where their money is going.”

Nick Walker, partner of Oxfordshire-based Focus Independent Advisers said: “I think it makes so much sense from so many different points of view, not least you do not have to carry paper around with you. If you are taking an image of it and transferring that to an employer, that enables you to keep a record that makes far more sense.”

He added that he was getting away from a paper-based system at his firm.
