Marketforce lectures will address major trends: CII
The Chartered Insurance Institute has launched a lecture series as part of celebrations to mark the centenary of its ‘royal charter’.
Speakers from Google, UCL, the Cass Business School, Climatewise and other organisations will join Marketforce in presenting The Nicholas Barbon Lectures.
The talks will address some of the major trends affecting the insurance industry, including the economic environment, consumer behaviour and climate change.
CII organisres said the speakers will cover specific issues, such as longevity, regulation, long-term effects of climate change, technology and role of emotions in financial decisions.
The CII added that the six lectures will be a good opportunity to hear from key figures, gain insight, and debate with peers.
Ant Gould, director of faculties at the CII, said: “With these lectures it is a way to keep ahead and focus on the way society is changing. This could definitely be part of continuing professional development package for financial advisers if it is relevant to the area of development an adviser needs.”
Paul Avis, of Canada Life, said: “Ageing and longevity is a big problem for group risk and it is always good to be discussing macro, socio-economic trends.
“As part of any adviser CPD regime there should not only be technical knowledge but also market insight to inform any future strategies.”
Canada Life provides audio and visual exercises for advisers as educational support. Mr Avis said it was a quick and accessible way for busy advisers to learn.
The lecture series will take place from 10 May to 28 June in London. All the lectures start at 6.30pm.
