Barings in emerging market credit fund launch

Emerging market specialist to roll out Emerging Markets Corporate Debt fund for recently-hired manager.

By Bradley Gerrard | Published Jun 20, 2012 | comments

Baring Asset Management is launching a Dublin-based emerging market credit fund for recent hire Faisal Ali.

The Baring Emerging Markets Corporate Debt fund will invest at least 70 per cent of assets in emerging market debt securities globally, in investment grade and non-investment grade markets.

The dollar-denominated fund will also use derivatives to ensure it is positioned to benefit from expected appreciation in the value of emerging market currencies.

Mr Ali was hired in August last year from Observatory Capital.

The emerging market credit fund will sit alongside Barings’ $163m (£100m) Emerging Markets Debt Local Currency fund, which focuses on government bonds.
