In an announcement from SimplyBiz, Matt Timmins said Ian Muirhead, previously managing director of Sifa, has been promoted to chairman, while legal affairs director Stuart Bushell will fill his role.
Mr Timmins, group managing director of SimplyBiz and former part-time chairman of Sifa, said: “As founder of Sifa, Mr Muirhead has seen the business grow from strength to strength over the past 20 years.
“I have the utmost respect for Mr Muirhead who has proven his dedication to bringing benefits to both legal firms and IFAs by recognising and building on the synergies between them.”
Mr Timmins said he would continue to be involved in the business.
Mr Muirhead said: “As a company we are well placed to make the convergence of legal and financial disciplines happen in the new era for professional services, which has been heralded by the Legal Services Act and the FSA’s retail distribution review.
“With SimplyBiz behind us, it will be a very exciting future.”
Sifa was established in 1992 to encourage and support interaction between solicitors and financial advisers. The firm was acquired by the SimplyBiz Group in August 2011.
Amanda Davidson, director of London-based Baigrie Davies, said she was aware of the work of Sifa but her firm opted to manage referrals itself.
She said: “It is important to set up relevant contacts with solicitors. We have connections with a number of law firms. Each relationship is different depending on specialisms and fees. We look for law firms that are a good match for our clients. It is often a reciprocal arrangement.”
