SLI promotes manager to head of global equities

Standard Life Investments (SLI) has promoted Mikhail Zverev to head of global equities.

Mr Zverev, who has managed the group’s £39.5m Global Equity Unconstrained fund since July 2010, will report directly to David Cumming, head of equities, for his new role.

Since taking on the fund, it has produced a top-quartile 30.8 per cent return compared with the IMA Global sector average return of 18.1 per cent, according to FE Analytics.

The appointment comes after it was announced last week that Wesley McCoy had rejoined Standard Life Investments (SLI) as an investment director on its global equities team from Odey Asset Management.

Mr McCoy previously joined SLI in 1999 but left in 2008 to pursue charity work in Malawi with the Microloan Foundation. He later joined Odey on its global multi asset hedge fund in June 2011 but left the group in July this year.

SLI said Mr McCoy ran its UK Unconstrained fund from launch in 2005 and was previously a UK retail and institutional high alpha manager.

However, the group also last week saw David Millar, Dave Jubb and Richard Batty leave to form a new multi-asset group at rival Invesco Perpetual.

The three managers make up part of the strategic investment group which is involved in running the £12bn Standard Life Global Absolute Return Strategies (GARS) fund.
