According to director Louise Potter, the two graduates, Sam Hawarden and Rachel Harper, will provide administrative help at Taylor Patterson, while working towards their diplomas in financial planning.

Among the tasks they will be set are providing helpful data on investments and managing invoices for clients.

Ms Potter said she had been “overwhelmed” by how much previous graduates have achieved, commending their “determination, worth ethic and willingness to learn”.

The firm is encouraging more graduates from the Lancashire area to apply for its scheme.

Taylor Patterson is one of a growing number of advisory firms taking on graduates. Last year, Cambridgeshire-based Beacon Wealth Management hired university graduate Rachel Ashdown as an investment administrator as part of ongoing expansion plans to boost its investment team.

Tony Larkins, managing director of Beacon, said: “University graduates are willing and capable of studying, and have no preconception of what is expected from their employer or bad habits.”

He recently confirmed the firm’s plans to grow organically through attracting new clients, while being interviewed on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire about Beacon’s office move into a renovated 17th-Century chapel.
