GLG Investments is to launch a total return fund later this year after poaching James Ind from Russell Investments.

Mr Ind will join the company’s Macro and Relative Value team, headed up by Jamil Baz and Sudi Mariappa, which will run the new fund.

The fund, available to both institutional and retail investors, has yet to be named but will look to generate positive returns by investing across a range of asset classes within a strict risk framework, GLG said.

Mr Ind joins GLG after five years at Russell where he headed up the firm’s multi-asset portfolios, including the flagship Multi Asset Growth strategy.

Prior to joining Russell, he spent eight years at Merrill Lynch and Mercury Asset Management, where he was a director of portfolio managers, responsible for the firm’s multi-asset target return funds.

GLG has made several changes to its existing funds in the IMA Targeted Absolute Return sector in an attempt to address performance issues.
