Partha Dasgupta, chairman of The Pensions Advisory Service, is to stand down from his role in September to “pursue personal interests”, the department for work and pensions has announced.

Mr Dasgupta was appointed to the role of chairman in January 2010 for three years and reappointed in January 2013 for a second three-year term but decided to step down following the TPAS’s 30th anniversary year.

The secretary of state will launch a recruitment exercise for a successor later this month.

Mr Dasgupta said: “Following the thirtieth anniversary year seems like the right time to hand over the reins and let me pursue some personal interests. TPAS continues to perform an important service, and I have enjoyed working with so many talented individuals – both our dedicated permanent staff and marvellous volunteers.

“Making pensions accessible has been at the heart of my period as chair. People demand information in ways that are convenient to them and pensions should be part of that. Over the last few years we have invested in our infrastructure and people to make sure that we have the tools and skills to serve the public, making us more efficient at a time of budget squeeze and helping us meet our financial plan.”
