For each paper and online application, the mutual offered to donate 10p or 20p towards a list of charities including Help for Heroes, World Wide Fund for Nature, British Heart Foundation, St George’s Crypt and the Leeds Building Society Charitable Foundation.
Its efforts proved lucrative – almost 80,000 members turned out to vote.
