The director of Best Doctors Europe revealed that the service, TraumaCare, will co-ordinate second medical opinions, either remotely from the comfort of a patient’s home or place of work.

Mr Howard said: “Trauma-related injuries can often be complex, with the need for help from medical experts in a number of specialities.

“TraumaCare can be a powerful marketing differentiator with the benefit of improved outcomes for insurers involved in personal accident, motor, private medical, employer’s liability and other lines.”

The service facilitated by Best Doctors, which has 30m members worldwide, offers a dedicated phone-support service for people suffering from musculoskeletal or post-injury conditions, giving advice and techniques for self-management.

David Crozier, director of Northern Ireland-based Navigator Financial Planning, said: “It certainly sounds interesting, but the devil is in the detail, such as cost issues.

“We deal with clients with serious injuries and there is a perception that injured parties want to get as much money as possible from a claim, but most are really interested in rehabilitation and getting their life back. This service sounds like it would help facilitate this.”
