One of Octopus Investments’ co-founders Guy Myles is to leave the firm to work on a new business venture.

Mr Myles said the company had gone from “strength to strength” and was now a “market leader in all of its core product areas”.

“Now feels the right time for me to step away to pursue my other interests in the knowledge that Octopus is well positioned for further growth over the coming years,” he said.

“I am incredibly proud of the business we have created at Octopus and of the 300 strong team we now have to help us deliver on our commitment to put our customers’ needs first. I look forward to seeing Octopus continuing to thrive in the coming years.”

Octopus was founded in 2000 by Guy Myles, Simon Rogerson, chief executive, and Chris Hulatt, chief financial officer.

It specialises in smaller company investing and has several venture capital trusts and enterprise investment schemes.

Mr Rogerson said: “Guy has helped to build Octopus into the business we have today - a business with 300 staff, 50,000 customers, more than £3.5bn under management and, most importantly, a culture where everyone understands that the customer comes first.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank him for all the sacrifice and hard work that has gone into this during the past 14 years.”

The company said Mr Myles would retain his shareholding in Octopus and remain an ambassador for the company in his capacity as co-founder.
