Rick Eling was so keen to get the audience’s attention at Financial Adviser’s pensions masterclass last week that at the beginning of his speech on post-Budget at retirement options that he broke into a bizarre form of South African dialect.

The Bristol-based head of investment solutions at Sanlam UK was not very convincing in his attempt to speak Afrikaans, but jokingly explained to the perplexed audience that speaking the language was a prerequisite for working with the financial services group.
