Advisory firms across the UK are boosting their local presence, recruiting paraplanners and making strategic acquisitions.

Over the past week, paraplanners have been in high demand. Somerset-based Nexus IFA appointed Matt Lee as its lead paraplanner for the Bridgwater office.

According to Mr Lee, who is a chartered paraplanner and holds a degree in Economics & Politics from Durham University, his role will help the firm build a high-quality paraplanning team as part of Nexus IFA’s expansion.

Cheshire-based Clarion Wealth Planning has also boosted its paraplanning division, hiring Adam Wareing as head of paraplanning. Mr Wareing had formerly been a sole trader, running his own financial planning business through the Pi Financial network.

In Durham, Eldon Financial Planning has started the recruitment process for a paraplanner, which the firm said would involve providing technical research, analyse data, prepare cashflow models, spreadsheets and charts and write reports for the financial planners.

According to Joss Harwood, chartered financial planner for Eldon, the firm has pledged to help the paraplanner train for chartered status.

This comes as Scottish firm Gilson Gray has acquired two legacy firms, A MacLeod Financial Services and the Lindsay Practice.

According to Glen Gilson, managing partner at Gilson Gray, the double acquisition will form Gilson Gray Financial Management, part of the St James’s Place network.
