Mark Bogard, chief executive of the recently launched Family Building Society, used an interesting personal story to express the need for a mutual focused on inter-generational financial issues.
At present, many students leave university with debts and therefore require assistance from older family members to get on the housing ladder, whereas Mr Bogard spoke of a life of wealth when going to study. Rather than living on pasta, rice and stale bread, he led a comfortable university life in the 1980s, and even graduated with savings thanks to a generous cheque given to him by Camden Council.
