Schroders has launched an onshore version of its Luxembourg-based QEP Global Emerging Markets fund for UK retail investors today.

The offshore fund has returned 11.6 per cent since launch in March 2012 compared to a return of 8.1 per cent by its benchmark MSCI Emerging Markets Net TR index, the company said.

Now the group is bringing the strategy under the existing team led by Justin Abercrombie to the UK to make it available to retail investors in the UK.

The team analyses company fundamentals but also uses a top-down country risk screen to highlight any issues which may be relevant to their investments.

Robin Stoakley, managing director, UK intermediary, said the offshore fund had performed strongly since its launch two years ago.

“We believe there is a lack of viable options for UK investors in this area and have launched an onshore version of the fund specifically to meet the needs of the UK advisory market,” he said.

“The QEP Investment team has a strong track record and I am very confident that they will continue to deliver strong returns for our investors going forward.”

Mr Abercrombie said since launching the QEP emerging markets strategy in early 2012 it had attracted £1.7bn in assets meaning it was a “natural step” to bring the strategy to the UK.
