Walker Crips confirmed that Mr Newton and Mr Powell will join as stockbrokers at the group.

The appointments follow those of stockbrokers Steven Moss and Mark Entwistle who also moved to Walker Crips from Barclays recently.

Mr Newton was previously at Barclays Advisory Stockbroking, having joined Barclays in 2008 as vice president of the Advisory Stockbroking team, providing advice on developed market equity portfolios to high net worth private clients.

Mr Powell spent four years as a stockbroker at Barclays where he focused on UK and US short term equity trade ideas.

Prior to that, he spent eight years dealing on an advisory and discretionary basis in cash equities and derivatives for clients in Europe and the Middle East.

Rodney FitzGerald, chief executive of Walker Crips, said: “Bill and Andrew join an increasing number of other investment managers and stockbrokers we have recruited over the past year as we continue to expand and diversify our advisory managed investment capability in direct response to increasing demand from clients.”
