The department for culture, media and sport has reaffirmed its stance against spam calls, this comes after a consumer told Financial Adviser of multiple cold calls offering “pension advice”.

A DCMS spokesman said: “We know how much people hate nuisance calls and that is exactly why the government has taken action against them.

“We will shortly consult on lowering the threshold for when action can be taken against firms making nuisance calls.”

This came after a consumer, who wished to remain anonymous, said he had been repeatedly cold called by a company offering “pension advice”, even after he had asked to be removed from their contact list.

Garry Heath, who is currently working on the Heath Report, said: “I would be exceedingly dischuffed if British IFAs were ringing people on spec, but I don’t think they have time.”
