The road to Istanbul

Rob Savin, e-commerce manager at Leeds Building Society, has cycled from London to Istanbul covering 3,540km (2,200 miles) in aid of Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.

Finishing joint 22nd out of 86 competitors as part of the Transcontinental Race from London to Istanbul, Mr Savin averaged 285km a day and climbed 36,000 metres in total, four times the height of Everest.

Mr Savin, along with his group, covered 10 countries, which was longer than the distance travelled by the Tour de France.

Riding in memory of his friend Simon Fenn, who died from pancreatic cancer in 2012, Mr Savin said: “The way Simon lived, even up to the last few days, was truly inspirational…I’d like to thank everyone who has sponsored us and Leeds Building Society for providing matched funding’.
