UK inflation has fallen further to 1.5 per cent in the year to August 2014, compared to price growth of 1.6 per cent reported in the year to July.

Official figures from the Office for National Statistics show falls in the prices of motor fuels and food and non-alcoholic drinks were the largest downward contributors.

But the falls in these prices were partially offset by rises in clothing, transport services and alcohol prices.
