Old Mutual Global Investors has hired former Ignis manager Ian Ormiston to lead its European smaller companies capabilities.

The group said Mr Ormiston had joined in the newly created role of European smaller companies manager and would lead the development of a fund focused on the asset class set for launch before the end of the year.

Mr Ormiston will report to head of UK equities Richard Buxton, who said Mr Ormiston had a “wealth of industry knowledge” having invested in UK and European markets for more than 20 years.

The hire comes shortly after that of Joshua Crabb from BlackRock, as revealed by Investment Adviser.

Mr Crabb will manage two of the group’s existing offshore Asian equity funds, which are currently outsourced to third party fund managers.
