Liontrust UK Smaller Companies

Co-managers Julian Fosh and Anthony Cross are at the helm of this fund, which has clocked up an impressive one, three, five and 10 years of outperformance against both its benchmark and IMA sector.

Mr Cross has been running the fund since its inception in January 1998 and was joined by Mr Fosh in June 2008. The portfolio invests in UK smaller companies with an objective to produce capital growth in excess of its benchmark, the FTSE Small Cap index over rolling three-year periods.

The managers run the fund in accordance with a proprietary investment process, investing only in smaller companies with “distinctive, intangible strengths that competitors struggle to reproduce”.

Over five years, the fund has delivered a total return of 123.05 per cent, against a return of 62 per cent by the benchmark and the IMA UK Smaller Companies sector average of 81.55 per cent.

The fund has a portfolio of roughly 58 holdings, with the technology sector accounting for 43.2 per cent, followed by industrials at 29.2 per cent.
