Standard Life Investments

Launched in 1998 by parent company Standard Life with roughly £60bn in assets under management, this investment house has gone from strength to strength and now manages approximately £195.1bn for clients worldwide, as of June 30 2014.

Headquartered in Edinburgh, Standard Life Investments (SLI) employs more than 1,000 people across the globe and its product offerings encompass equities, bonds, real estate, private equity, multi-asset, fund of funds and absolute return strategies.

The latter is what the company has become best known for in the form of the SLI Global Absolute Return Strategies (Gars) vehicle, although it has since expanded this area of the business following its acquisition of Ignis Asset Management in July 2014.

SLI states the acquisition complemented its own product range as well as deepening investment capabilities in areas such as government bonds and liquidity. The company already has four funds appearing in the Investment Adviser 100 Club 2014, including its UK Equity Income Unconstrained fund managed by rising star Thomas Moore and its Property Income Trust managed by Jason Baggaley.

But as the integration of the Ignis business continues, who knows if this tally could increase next year.
