UK equity manager Julie Dean will join her former Cazenove colleagues at Sanditon Asset Management next year.

Ms Dean left Schroders left month in a move which shocked the group but now she will join her former Cazenove colleagues Tim Russell and Chris Rice at the boutique.

Sanditon co-founder Mr Russell, said he was “pleased that our long term working relationship is being renewed”.

The group’s chief executive, Rupert Tyer, added: “Our first three products have been well received by the market.

“Our future plans include the launch of a long/short UK Select fund later this year and a long only UK fund in 2015.

“Sanditon offers investors a highly experienced investment team and with the addition of Julie we are demonstrating our serious intent to become a leading provider of Ucits funds.”

Ms Dean ran the highly successful UK Opportunities fund, which is top quartile in the IMA UK All Companies sector in 10-, five- and three-year periods but has struggled somewhat more recently.

In the past year it has lost 12.5 per cent against a peer group average loss of 1.3 per cent, according to data from FE Analytics.

Shortly after Schroders’ move to buy Cazenove was announced, Ms Dean’s fund was £1.3bn in size but grew to more than £2.8bn at the end of February this year.

Negative performance and outflows have now seen the fund, which was taken on by Matt Hudson last month, drop to just more than £1.05bn.
