Sixty financial planning firms across the UK have agreed to offer services free of charge later this month as part of Financial Planning Week.

Stue Whitbread, communications director for the Institute of Financial Planning, which is organising the events, said there was “near-national” coverage for this year’s week-long campaign, which starts on 23 November.

The free consultations will give the public the chance to plan their finances and make the most of their money.

Ms Whitbread said: “We hope that as many people as possible take advantage of these free financial planning surgeries, so that we are not just raising awareness of the importance of planning but providing practical support to consumers.”

Background

Financial Planning Week is now in its seventh year and is aimed at raising awareness of the benefits of getting financial advice and to help advisers build their brands.

Last year, Tony Larkins, managing director of Cambridgeshire-based advisory firm Beacon Wealth Management, said he saw many people come for help when the firm held free surgeries as part of the 2013 campaign to raise awareness of money management.
