Woodford Investment Management has significantly expanded its back office team to cope with the influx of money into the fledgling company.

The asset manager has hired Gavin St John-Heath from BlueQuant Capital Management as chief risk and operations officer, who is due to start on January 1.

Simon Osborne has already joined as head of compliance, having previously been senior vice president at US firm Nuveen Investments.

Neil Woodford’s firm has also hired David Brailsford from IBM to be data architecture delivery manager and Vimal Patel from sovereign wealth manager Mubadala Development Company as a business analyst.

Craig Newman, chief executive of Woodford Investment Management, said the hires were necessary because as the business continues to grow “the demands placed on our legal and compliance operation will intensify”.
