Seven Families gains Facebook momentum

The Facebook page of a charity-led campaign has surpassed a 100,000-view milestone, a spokesman has said.

The spokesman for the Seven Families initiative said that approximately 120,000 people had viewed videos on the its Facebook page, which launched in November.

The campaign, which receives help from companies including insurance providers, focuses on providing a tax-free income for a year to seven different people who have lost their incomes because of a serious or long-term illness or disability.

So far, three of the seven families have been selected. In November Seven Families announced that Paul Pickford, a 42-year-old man who ran a car dealership until he suffered a stroke in November 2012, would receive the campaign’s support.

Harry Bowman, principal for Aberdeen-based Portlethen Financial Services, said: “It is always a good thing to be raising awareness about the issue.

“People are aware of the need for things like income protection, but tend to be more concerned about the short term if they are made redundant.”
