UK and North American equity funds suffer February outflows

Investors dramatically slashed their exposure to UK and US equities in February with massive outflows seen from the two sectors, according to data from the Investment Association.

North American equity funds saw a net outflow of £356m in February - the largest level of outflows since Janaury 1992 - while UK equity funds saw £530m of outflows, the highest since January 2008.

Equity funds in general saw a net outflow for the second month, losing £59m.

Property bumped the negative trend though after being the best selling sector with sales of £304m.

Net retail sales were up considerably compared to last month but are still much lower this year compared to last year.

There was £845m of net retail sales in February compared to £320m in January. However, in February of last year sales were about £1bn higher at £1.84bn.
