Almost a third of Britons have no access to money, having nothing in their bank account and no ability to borrow.

Those living in Wales and Scotland are most likely to run out of money (39 per cent and 38 per cent respectively) according to thinkmoney, while those aged between 35 and 44 struggle the most to make their money stretch through the month.

The most common reasons for running out of money are low disposable incomes and unexpected bills and expenses - although overspending comes third.
