App focuses on breast cancer cover

Leicestershire-based Martin-Redman Partners has launched an app to give advisers a quote-and-buy facility for a breast cancer critical illness product on Apple and Android devices.

The app, My Breast Cancer Support, can provide a live quote and instant acceptance if the user answers its questions, meets certain critera and adds his payment details.

Jeremy Edwards, an associate partner at the firm, said the app addressed breast cancer only because this was the most likely cancer to be diagnosed in the UK.

He said: “Only covering one peril has two advantages. The underwriting questions are massively reduced, and monthly premiums are low, starting at 50p a month for £10,000 cover for an 18-year-old.

“Once in place the premium does not rise and multiple claims can be made, up to the total sum assured of the plan.”

Adviser view

Emma Thomson, life office relationship director for London-based LifeSearch, said: “Insurers should be developing far more means to buy through devices such as tablets and apps. This could be good not just for consumers to use but also for intermediaries.”
