L&G launches personal finance guides

The vast majority of people have not asked for help on their personal finances, professional or otherwise, new data has found, with Legal and General launching ‘rough guides’ to personal finance as it attempts to address this.

According to research from Legal and General, conducted amongst 2,009 UK adults, 69 per cent have not asked for help with 9 per cent stating this was due to a lack of confidence, being too embarrassed to ask or not knowing where to turn.

Legal and General said that to help people improve their financial confidence, it has partnered with travel publisher Rough Guides to launch the first ever ‘rough guide to personal finance’ series.

The set of ebooks will cover all life stages, including raising children, education, work and retirement. All books will be free to download and are authored by independent experts.

Family finances is the topic of the first book and is intended to help people with all aspects of family life from including the basics of budgeting, caring for elderly relatives and the costs of bringing up children.

Nigel Wilson, chief executive officer at Legal and General said: “The aim of the ‘rough guide’ to Personal Finances series is to give people no-nonsense, practical and clear information, so they can feel more confident about taking control of their finances for today and in the future.

“Money can often be a cause of stress and feel too confusing to tackle, meaning many people make ends meet rather than think positively about what a difference financial planning could make to their lives.”
