Cirencester Friendly, the income protection specialist, has raised more than £1,000 through a charity day held on Friday 15 May 2015.

Staff at the society participated in several fundraising activities including a bake sale, guess-the-baby photo competition, a homemade Asian cuisine lunch, guess the celebrity and a raffle. The highlight of the day was ‘the big snip’.

Phil Quinn, head of IT, has been growing his ponytail since 1998, and his colleagues submitted sealed bids for the chance to cut it off.

Some £500.45 was raised on the day and the society has pledged to match this sum taking the total to £1,000.90. The proceeds will be split between Prostate Cancer and Headway Gloucester.

Mr Quinn added: “There are some charities that are worth doing all you can for, and if somehow losing the hair helps, it’s a given.”
