L&G assesses future of Surrey HQ

Legal & General could close its headquarters in Kingswood, Surrey, according to a spokesman who confirmed that consultations were taking place about the design of the organisation.

The spokesman said: “In terms of Kingswood we are in the process of developing detailed proposals for re-configuring our business areas and locations to maximise customer service, collaboration and efficiency.”

The company has 1,700 employees in Kingswood, 1,300 in Hove, 1,300 in Cardiff and 600 in Birmingham and Witham, Essex.

The spokesman added: “Some business areas are already in the process of formal consultations about their organisational design and some changes have already taken place. This work will now include the future plans for all of our locations, including Kingswood.”

This came amid speculation that Cofunds, which is owned by L&G, might be up for sale.
