James Hay poaches Skipton advice arm chairman

James Hay has hired former Skipton distribution director Mark Fleet as commercial director.

He will take up the role at the end of July, having also been chairman of the building society’s advice arm.

Other previous roles include managing director at AWD Moneyextra and chief operating officer at Chase de Vere.

Director of strategy and commercial Chris Smeaton, director of distribution Paul Bagley, head of communications Hilary Morison, and head of marketing Daniella Johnston will all report into Mr Fleet.

James Hay chief executive Alastair Conway said that his experience will be brought to bear on building on the foundations of a successful 2014.

Mr Fleet added that changes in the marketplace mean that James Hay is ideally placed to become the leading platform for retirement wealth planning.

Earlier this year the firm appointed Iain McCoo as its new finance director, replacing John Watson, who stood down in order to take a “well-deserved break”.

In March, they also saw several regional business development managers leave, as part of a restructuring which has seen James Hay evolves from being a self-invested pension provider to a broader wealth management and retirement-focused platform.
