Tilney appoints new director

Tilney for Intermediaries is continuing its expansion plans by hiring John Alexander as a business development director based in the firm’s Liverpool office.

He will be responsible for building relationships with intermediary clients, both existing and new, primarily in the north west.

Mr Alexander has joined the company from Momentum Global Investment Management, where he had been business development manager since 2013.

Meanwhile Tilney Bestinvest chief investment officer Gareth Lewis has blamed the continuing lack of investment opportunities for clients and their advisers on quantitative easing.

He said: “There has not been this creative destruction, and there are just not the investment opportunities out there.

“I do not think this is secular stagnation; I think this is due to the legacy of QE. The jobs being created are low-skill, often temporary and poorly paid because this natural reinvestment cycle is simply not happening.”

Adviser view

Simon Torry, a financial adviser with Essex-based SRC Wealth Management, said: “What we are looking for with our clients is diversification and giving them a portfolio that offers opportunities in the longer term.

“Certainly from my point of view, looking for investment opportunities in this economic environment is very difficult.”
