L&G launches second opinion service for protection

Legal and General has launched a second medical opinion service today (15 July), providing customers a face-to-face meeting with a consultant specialist about their condition, should they need to make a claim.

All elements of the service will be confidentially managed by Healix Health Services, which is independent from Legal and General.

The service will be included as standard on all new policies taken out from 29 June 2015.

These include: term assurance (terminal illness cover), critical illness cover (including children’s critical illness cover), Family and personal income plans, income protection benefit and business protection.

L&G will pay a contribution of up to £300 towards the cost of a face to face consultation, with an average consultation costing £250.

Steve Bryan, director of the intermediary division at L&G Insurance, said that the launch was part of an on-going commitment to frequently review and adapt the claims process to ensure it is as stress-free and efficient as possible.

L&G is not the first to offer a second opinion service, but rather following in the footsteps of Friends Life, AIG Life, Virgin Money and Canada Life.
