OMW appoints LifeQuote head to lead protection strategy

Old Mutual Wealth has appointed Paul Roberts, formerly head of intermediary distribution at LifeQuote, as head of business development for protection.

He will lead the development of the firm’s distribution strategy in the protection market. Mr Roberts has worked with specialist protection portal LifeQuote since April 2011.

Old Mutual Wealth said it has “ambitious plans” to grow its footprint in intermediated protection sales and Mr Roberts’ knowledge of the adviser market and experience of building distribution models in partnership with intermediaries would help the business realise that ambition.

At LifeQuote, Mr Roberts helped the firm develop a range of new business models and secured partnerships with several intermediary networks.

He has worked closely with leading intermediary networks, including Intrinsic, which is owned by Old Mutual Wealth.

Mr Roberts will join the business and complete a handover from Ian Jefferies on 1 September.

Tony Harris, Old Mutual Wealth head of specialist support, said: “The business has completed a number of important improvements to the protection proposition recently, including enhancements to critical illness cover, which now encompasses all types of heart attack and extended coverage for strokes.

“Old Mutual Wealth has ambitious plans to develop its protection proposition through better use of technology and the introduction of greater product innovation. Paul’s breadth of experience ensures we have the right leadership in place to deliver on that strategy.”
