Nikko hires Mertens to reach ‘critical mass’

Nikko Asset Management has hired Holger Mertens from Lazard as it looks to build “critical mass” for its global credit capabilities.

Mr Mertens has joined Nikko as a global credit fund manager, having been portfolio manager on the Lazard European High Yield strategy for the past 13 years.

Nikko had already hired Ee-Yung Yip from F&C Asset Management in December 2014 to be a senior credit analyst and assistant portfolio manager.

Elsewhere, the firm has relocated senior portfolio manager Steve Williams from its New York office to London in order to concentrate its global credit team together.

Nikko said the appointments “build critical mass for Nikko Asset Management and centre its global credit capability in London, from where it can draw on the firm’s investment talent across the globe”.
