FCA appoints barrister as supervision head

The FCA has appointed Megan Butler to act as director of supervision for investment, wholesale and specialist while Tracey McDermott acts as chief executive.

Ms McDermott will replace Martin Wheatley temporarily when he leaves the regulator on 12 September.

Ms Butler will be joining the FCA on secondment from the PRA on 1 September.

Mr Wheatley said: “Megan brings with her a wealth of experience and an excellent reputation in wholesale markets and will be a valuable addition to the executive team.”

Ms Butler is a barrister by profession and was called to the bar in 1987.

She joined the Bank of England in April 2013 from the FSA where she was head of enforcement law and policy and head of the department responsible for the supervision of the UK operations of the major investment banks.

Before joining the FSA in 2000 she spent several years at the London Stock Exchange in a variety of legal and non-legal roles, including head of capital markets.
