Unum adds elder care support to group risk policies

An online portal for elder care support and guidance is to be made available to more than 150,000 employees of Unum’s income protection, critical illness and life cover customers.

AgeingWorks, provided by The Positive Ageing Company, is designed to help employees recognise the signs of problems associated with advancing age and prepare for the care of their loved ones.

Employers wishing to offer it to their staff will also have access to Sleeping Tiger – a tool that helps to identify the cost of lost productivity to their business as a result of working carers taking time off.

Glenn Thompson, customer solutions director at Unum, said: “We have been exploring with advisers and employers what the future workplace will look like, and increasingly the needs of older workers, often with concerns about their own health as well as that of their parents and partners, are getting priority attention.

To learn more about add-ons to insurance policies and earn CPD read FTAdviser’s Guide to Income Protection with Medical Assistance.

The guide explores whether advisers should be sticking with basic policies that simply pay out if a client is ill and unable to work or is it now expected that a policy should do more than simply send a cheque if your client has a listed medical condition.
