Harry Nimmo, who runs the Standard Life Investments UK Smaller Companies portfolio, has come first in a list of the best performing 25 UK fund managers.
Mr Nimmo topped the list created by online investment platform TD Direct Investing, followed by Daniel Nickols of the Old Mutual UK Smaller Companies fund and Michael Lindsell and Nick Train of the Lindsell Train UK Equity fund.
The top 25 fund managers were selected according to their performance over the past 10 years.
They were chosen from a list of more than 400 fund managers, which was then scaled down to 269 managers who met strict criteria.
These managers had to have a 10-year track record running the same fund or managing two funds consecutively in the same style, a 10-year outperformance against the fund manager’s Investment Association Sector, and to have managed more than £100m and invested in UK-listed shares.
Despite running one of the most popular funds in the country, Neil Woodford’s performance over the past 10 years has only placed him ninth on the list.
Michelle McGrade, chief investment officer at TD Direct Investing, said: “Neil Woodford is one the UK’s great fund managers and this, coupled with the strength of his brand, has elevated the Woodford fund in the eyes of UK investors. However, the findings show there are other great managers available – a number of which are delivering better returns.”
