Alliance Trust bond manager Juan Valenzuela has joined Kames Capital’s fixed income team.

Mr Valenzuela, who co-managed the £92m Alliance Trust Dynamic Bond fund, will report to John McNeill, who is responsible for the Kames rates team.

Mr Valenzuela has managed a cumulative performance of 4.6 per cent over three years, according to FE Analytics.

He joined the firm last Wednesday (October 7) and will be responsible for idea generation in the Kames’ rates team.

The move follows the revelation by Alliance Trust chair Karin Forseke that the company would wind down its activities in the fixed income space.

In a letter to shareholders at the start of this month, Ms Forseke said: “Alliance Trust will increasingly focus on global equities and will dispose of its fixed income, legacy mineral rights and property assets as soon as practicable.”

Meanwhile Timothée Pubellier has also joined Kames from Paris-based hedge fund UBP, where he was a portfolio manager.

Mr Pubellier will work as a trainee fixed income manager and report to Gregory Turnbull-Schwartz, who leads the financials fixed income team.

David Roberts, head of fixed income at Kames, said the appointments “add strength and depth to our team, as we look to further develop our fixed income capabilities both in the UK and in continental Europe.”
